Combination Locks and Safes

How do you open a combination safe?
Start by turning the dial to the right a minimum of 4 turns and stop on the first number. Turn the dial to the left passing the second number twice, stopping on the third time. Turn the dial to the right passing the third number once, stopping on the number the next time.
How does the lock on a safe work?
The fence prevents the safe door from being opened without the combination being dialed. It does this by resting on the wheels and blocking the path of the bolt that secures the safe door. When all the wheels line up, their notches align to form a gap. In a padlock, this gap allows the hasp of the lock to release.
How does a combination lock works?
If you have used a combination lock before you know the drill: “Turn the dial clockwise two full rotations to the first number of the combination. Then turn it counter-clockwise past the first number to the second number. Then turn the dial clockwise to the third number and the lock will open.”
